Code of Practice

Study Hub West Coast is an Australian government initiative through the Regional University Centres program solely operated through West Coast Heritage Ltd. Study Hub West Coast is not an education provider. Students should refer to their relevant university or vocational education and training (VET) provider’s Code of Practice and Complaints/Grievance process should they wish to address specific concerns, issues with them.

As part of an on-going commitment to students, staff, visitors and the wider West Coast Community, Study Hub West Coast has adopted a Code of Practice. To assist students studying at the Study Hub to understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behavior whilst on site and to focus on channelling positive behaviour of all stakeholders, this Code of Practice incorporates policy for student complaints and grievances and integrates standards of behaviour for interacting with the student community and others outside the organisation.

The following standards of behaviour are inclusive, but not limited to the following;

Students and staff will at all times represent the best interests of Study Hub West Coast in the public domain. This includes all forms of digital and social media and communication platforms including verbally by phone and via text.

Divulging the personal details of staff or students is prohibited, as is sharing commercially sensitive information with external and third parties.

Students must not be under the influence of, or consume alcohol or illicit drugs while studying on-site.

Rude, harassing, bullying, threatening or otherwise offensive behaviour will not be tolerated. Study Hub West Coast endeavours at all times to further the spirit of cooperation, be courteous to all site users, stakeholders and visitors and ensure the Study Hub remains a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Students, staff, visitors and the wider West Coast community may not engage in any unauthorised activities on site, particularly those involving members of the public and/or children without the express, written consent of the Study Hub Manager. Study Hub West Coast is for exclusive use of registered Hub users only except where accredited training is being conducted onsite with prior approval from the Study Hub Manager.

All WHS incidents, episodes and hazards, must be reported to the Study Hub West Manager at the earliest opportunity. In the first instance this may be by telephone or email followed by completion of an accident/incident report form.  Hazards and potential hazards should be reported to the Study Hub Manager at the earliest opportunity.

All incidents involving student altercations or disputes must be reported to the Study Hub Manager at the earliest opportunity. Mediation if required will be organised by the Study Hub Manager in partnership with a relevant representative from the student’s education provider and/or West Coast Heritage Ltd Chairman.

Verbal or written warnings in the first instance may be issued for serious and/or repeated breaches of conduct.  If the breach is perceived as a threat to students, integrity of the facility or as a disruption to campus operation, a written warning will be issued by the Study Hub Manager. Serious breaches of the code will result in de-registration of the student and deactivation of fob access. The Study Hub Manager will, in consultation with West Coast Heritage Ltd determine the final outcome of the misconduct.

Should the student wish to take the matter further, they have the right of response to advance their complaint. To escalate the incident for further investigation please direct the complaint to West Coast Heritage Ltd Chairman Mr Phil Vickers – wch.ltd@bigpond.com
